Why do Christians agree with the separation of church and state?
Don’t they see it as a deterrent to their practices? At one point, their beliefs weren’t as contained, and in Christians accepting today’s laws, they agree to history’s past, which would go against their religious-inspired ideas if they were present at that time. Aren’t they only agreeing to the separation because the government has predisposed that belief, and not their god? Do Christians admit that their religion is limited by the government? And if their bibles say it’s OK, why was a theocracy also held as acceptable?

What in the world are you talking about? I am a Christian but I don’t want a State church. I want government out of church. I would like to MAYBE see the government make Christianity the official religion. But I know that would not work out because the government no longer knows what Christianity is. They do know what Atheism is though. In fact I think Atheism is the unofficial religion of this country. This is why I see our great country sliding downward morally.
I agree with the separation of Church and State because I don’t want to be forced to believe in a dead God, in a manner of speaking.
Because there are Protestant Christians who do not want to take a chance that the Government would ONLY recognize Catholicism as the Government sanctioned religion which would force Protestants to become Catholics….neither do the Mormons want to be told how to worship God should the Government only designate Jehovah’s Witnesses as the Government recognized religion. There are 30,000 Christian demominations….which one of those 30,000 should get Most Favored Status from the Government???
Freedom OF Religion…not Freedom FROM religion.
Actually, based on my experience I would guess that the majority of christians *don’t* agree with "separation of church & state," at least not when it comes to christianity (though they’re all for it when it comes to Islam, Hindusim, etc.).
I’m quite fond of pointing out to those who want to have prayer in schools, mandatory bible reading, teaching creationism, etc. that even though many of the founders of the US were indeed christians, they were intelligent enough to realize that mixing government and religion is a bad idea. If they saw what many of today’s christians are trying to do to the constitution they worked so hard on, they’d be turning over in their graves…
Peace.
"Why do Christians agree with the separation of church and state?"
I don’t think that’s correct.
There are many xian ‘leaders’ who say there should be NO separation at all…
Gary North (Institute for Christian Economics)
"The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church’s public marks of the covenant–baptism and holy communion–must be denied citizenship."
"This is God’s world, not Satan’s. Christians are the lawful heirs, not non-Christians."
Gary Potter (Catholics for Christian Political Action)
"When the Christian majority takes over this country, there will be no satanic churches, no more free distribution of pornography, no more talk of rights for homosexuals. After the Christian majority takes control, pluralism will be seen as immoral and evil and the state will not permit anybody the right to practice evil."
James Kennedy (Center for Reclaiming America)
"The Christian community has a golden opportunity to train an army of dedicated teachers who can invade the public school classrooms and use them to influence the nation for Christ."
Joseph Scheidler (Pro-Life Action League)[ANTI-CHOICE ACTION LEAGUE]
"I would like to outlaw contraception…contraception is disgusting – people using each other for pleasure."

Oh, they only agree with it when the government stays out of their business. But that doesn’t seem to stop them from sticking their fingers in the government’s business.
I don’t think they do. At least not all of them.
Um… they dont. In fact, if the extremists had their way, they would over run the White House with an army of 100,000,000 "God Warriors" being led by this crazy broad… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LACyLTsH4ac
and place the Jesus cross and Christ flag on the roof. Next, they would overtake the Supreme Court and rip up all gay marriage contracts and force religion and creationism and an all-new Sunday School back into the schools. That night, a national broadcast will be shown from VA to CA that the Church is the supreme power, thus hurdling us back to 1508 A.D
Later, the fires that will burn the pagans, atheists, witches and gay people will light up the night. Binny Hinn will be the pope and Pastor Kerny Thomas will the head of the Supreme Court. Of course, Kerney will judge based on whether or not the parties of the court have purchased his damn "Persnal Pwayer Peckage".
Because we remember the religious persecution of our ancestors in Europe. That’s why America was founded. Ever take American History?
In part because the US was colonized by religious radicals who wanted to be left alone to practice their own beliefs in peace. They also recognized that in order to have this right, they had to allow others the same right.
Another reason is that plenty of Christians understand they can be fully Christian and still not be total turds to people who believe differently. Spiritual life and political life don’t have to be the same. "Render under Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s."
"Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s"
It is often said that Christianity hasn’t declined in America in the way it has in Europe precisely becuse there is no established church in America. Americans could free themselves from the shackles of (for instance) slavery, without having to rebel against the church at the same time as they were rebelling against the state. In Europe, on the other hand, when monarchies tumbled the established churches tumbled with them.
The phrase separation of church and state came from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to a Baptist Church to assure them that the government would not tell them how to run their church.
It has been twisted around by people who want to tell others how they can and can not worship God and try to claim that it is some sort of unwritten law, and then try to claim that it means that people who hold to Biblical standards can not influence the government.
Contrary to your belief, my worshiping God is not limited by the government. if that were true, then that person would be putting the government above God. God does not take such idolatry lightly, and would put things back in their proper order..
If you read Thomas Jefferson’s ideas on the matter, you can see that he was not worried about government being corrupted by religion but vice versa. When the govt. picks one religion to endorse and make ‘official’, it tends to corrupt religion with politics. Separation of church and state was not to protect government from religious influence but to protect religion from the influence of politics.
Every election cycle we see the corruption of religion by politics. It is such a con job and the exploitation of the faithful for votes is tragic.
If the government gets involved with the church, the church will have to start paying taxes like all other money-making establishments..
Besides, the churches cannot even agree amongst themselves whose beliefs are "right" (hence the thousands of denominations), so exactly what church would you have governing the land?
Their reasons are purely political, and have nothing to do with the bible.
The Holy Bible flip-flops on practically every issue… on top of that Christians interpret the Bible anyway they feel convenient… that is why we have so many Church brands to choose from…
1611 A.D king james edits the bible/ 1620 A.D. puritans land on plumouth rock. I think one of the main intentions is that they didn’t want the king to have power to mess with the book
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
Ok now I feel somewhat better.
#1 The seperation between church and state PROTECTS religion and the free practice thereof from the corruption of secular government.
Here is the true history of the Christian faith, and the persecution they endured.
Dark Age Church History
Jesus stated he will establish his church on the rock Cephas, which means stone (a.k.a. Peter). This is true, but is the Catholic Church the same church that Peter founded?
NO.
During the Dark Ages, Christians believing in Christ were persecuted for their beliefs by the Romans. Christianity was being stomped out of existence by Paganism. In 321AD the Roman Emperor Constantine was "converted" and decided that he wanted to convert Rome as well… So he marched 1000 Pagan soldiers through a river and "baptized" them into Christianity. After this he went around naming everything Christian names, and even gave all his soldiers Christian names too. Effectually though he did not bapitze his soldiers, but only made them "wet Pagans". Now Christianity suddenly went from being the minority to being the majority, literally over night. Even the Statue of "Peter" was there before Peter was born. This statue was one among many things renamed by Constantine in an attempt at government reform. Formerly it was the god of Jupiter (or Pluto) Constantine was not said to have a "full" conversion until on his death bed. Pagan/Christians now had the majority and forced Pagan beliefs on the few Christians who were left. These faithful Christians were deemed "heretics" by the Church and sentenced to death at the Church’s convenience.
Those were the Dark Ages. Constantine was the Roman Emperor who became CHRISTIAN, and then decided that EVERYONE was going to be Christian too… so it went from pagans murdering Christians, to pagans becoming Christians, to Pagans who say they are Christians murdering Christians… this is how the popularity of Catholicism was born….
By FORCE… back then there was one church… the Roman church or NO church… this allowed for many doctrines that are simply not taught to enter into our churches… the reformation expunged some of this, but there are still some minor(and some major) discrepancies regarding the doctrines taught by the Bible.. This all stemmed from the force of Religion/Government rules by the Catholics who got their power in 538AD
In 538AD emperor Justinian left for Constantinople and gave the western part of his empire to the ARCH BISHOP OF ROME… the arch bishop then proceeded to use his power to enforce government mandates regarding the free practice of religion… and thus the world was truly plunged into the DARK AGES.
This ended when General Berthier of FRANCE in 1798AD marched on ROME and took the arch bishop of his throne where he dies in captivity. This opens the way for the reformation to blossom. This also gives full allowance during the exodus for Christian believers to escaping persecution and fleeing to the New World (America)
You don’t understand the reason for the "separation of church and state."
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The founders of this country fled persecution. this amendment was written to keep it from happening here. It was not intended to hinder religious expression.
some Christians have different views than others. for example, methodists baptize their babies when they’re born by sprinkling water on them, while baptists baptize their people after they’ve accepted Jesus as their personal savior, and they baptize all the way under water just like Jesus’ example with John in the Bible
