What would be a good degree for someone to obtain prior to entering a physical therapy program?
I am a college student who is interested in becoming a physical therapist. I have read that students need to obtain a bachelors degree before being accepted into a physical therapy program at a university. What I am wondering is this. Would it be possible to be accepted into a physical therapy program if I first obtain a degree in something completely different like interior design or multimedia art? In other words, does what kind of bachelors degree you have matter when applying to a physical therapy program if you have taken all of the preliminary science classes? Thanks for any answers!

In most cases, yes, you can earn a degree in anything. However, you must also meet the prerequisite courses as designated by the school to which you hope to apply. Choosing something like interior design might be possible…but consider all the coursework you still need to take for PT and it could mean it will take you 5-6 years for your bachelor’s…add another 3 years on top for PT school and that’s a lot of education.
A FEW schools require that you actually have a BS as opposed to a BA, so be sure to check out the requirements for the school you hope to attend.
