My brother is willing to give custody of his son to us, how long is this process and what are the steps? We are stationed overseas in the military and don’t have direct access to legal help (legal office here can’t help), any advice would be greatly appreciated. My nephew is in the state of California. Both of his parents are willing to let him come live with us, but the military requires we have legal custody of him before we can add him as a dependent. His home state is CA as is mine. We are stationed on a US military installation in Japan, I am just trying to get an idea of how long this can take if all parties involved agree. I’ve been told its as simple as a notarized letter, but I don’t know if that is true. I need custody, not guardianship, in order to enroll him in school and our medical insurance…any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a nephew who has been living with me for about 2 years away from his mother, but has lived with me all his life along with his mother. I want to know if there is anyway for me to get custody of him with his mother’s permission without her going to court in my state. If so how and where can I get the papers to do so. Thank You.

My brother has partial custody of his son. Required by court, he is allowed ALL weekends and some agreed holidays.

The mother of my nephew has decided she will be moving across country with a guy she hasnt even known a year yet, and taking my nephew with her.

My brother feels since he doesnt have money to pay a lawyer, there is nothing he can do about it. So, he is just going to let his son go, even though he may never see him again.

What can he do, if he is willing and/or as an Aunt what can I do if he wont do anything?

I married a foreigner, and started to do her visa, and then told her to send all her valuables here, and she did. When the things arrived, I stopped her visa and told her not to bother me anymore. I hoped that my nephew, who graduated as a lawyer would arrange an easy divorce, he said that he would; but it turned out that it’s very expensive.
How can I have a cheap divorce, so that I have some profit off her things?

My nephew and his mother live in NC. My brother currently doesn’t get to see his child because he owes back child support & the mother won’t let him. My parents live in NY and were wondering if and how they could get visitation rights to their grandchild. They basically only see him twice a year and that’s when the mother is getting along with my brother. How could they go about getting visitations a couple of times a year if they live in different states? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Okay I will try to make this as clear as I can. My brother is divorcing his wife. She has been abusing her children. My youngest nephew whom is about 7 or so months old was found to have a burn on his leg and when my brother saw it he took him to thr ER. It had to have been from her side because She dropped him off at my brothers along with the rest of the kids and the burn was there. His wifes brother has also sexually abusing one of my nephews if not all for of them. Now, we don’t have proof of this yet but when my brother went to take his oldest son to get his glasses fixed he said "OUCH" and my brother asked him why he said ouch and I guess his wifes brother hit him because he wouldn’t let him spray green hair spray on his privates?? Thats what he told his daddy. Anyways His wife is also doing drugs not to mention she went to a family member of ours and beat up my brother with the baby in her arms. So heres the problem, my brothers lawyer is telling him to give the kids back to his mother.. it may only be for the time being but anything could happen. I dont understand why child pro. services hasnt taken these children out of her custody?! I weas abused by my father when i was younger and had proof i was being abused and they never did anything either. What can I do to help my brother get his kids?! I cant watch another child go through this. I am living in germany my husband is active duty and it’s so hard to help my brother being so far away. Please help me help him. Something HAS to be done. Who can he call what can he do. This is getting nowhere.
