The marriage certificate that shows they were married in 1984 is old so when she went to her interview to the US embassy they asked her for a new one, well she went to get it but the system changed they only have computers now and the new certificate came that they were married in 2001, Oh my God what she can do, a lawyer is asking her for 00 to fix the error. My husband (UK) and I (US) are moving to the UK in June.

We were married in the US last July.
The settlement application says that we need to provide an original marriage certificate.
This is a problem because I gave the original to my state’s registrar office to register it there.

Is a notarized copy from the registrar’s office okay?

Also, will I need an apostille for the certificate?

(I’ve already tried calling the embassy and emailing the visa services and haven’t got a response on this question)
