need advice with marriage and past debt?

Heres my question. My boyfriend and I are wanting to get married. He owes the IRS a significally amount of money amongst other agencies from the past.I myself however do not owe the IRS or at the moment have any unpaid bills for that matter. My question is how will my boyfriends debt affect me? Will I be responsible as well as he when we get married? And how will it affect our taxes? Can we file jointly?

This is an amendment to an earlier question, but I live in PA and my wife and I split 5 months into the year. Going over the IRS website she should be considered the custodial parent this year, however that stipulation is under the legally seperated and divorced parents section. Does this change as we are not yet divorced and there are no legal separation documents drawn up?

My husband owes a lot of money to the irs and I am filing head of household since he has been gone over 6 months, however, before I file for divorce should we declare bankruptcy together, or will that make his debts even more my responsibility. Legally I don’t know.

Also, what is the cheapest way to get a divorce?

My husband and I are going to file for divorce soon. He owes the IRS for some back taxes from before we got married, and says that when the divorce is final I will be responsible for half of his debt. Is this true? If so, is there anything I or a divorce attorney can do about it?

I don’t know if it makes a difference to the situation, but we filed jointly in ’08 and our refund & stimulus check were both applied to his debt.

How long does it take to get to the person that it is owed to? State of Nevada if that makes any difference. I am suppose to get child support, I know they held the money from the mothers taxes. How long does the State of Nevada have to get the money to you that the IRS with holds for them?

Will the IRS get his refund to go towards what he owes them or will I get it to go towards what he owes in child support?

I recently wrote an article on women in the mid-forties and on, who have been married for over 15 years and ended up divorced. One of the issues that many of them discussed is the idea that women should pay taxes to the IRS on alimony that has already been taxed. Essentially, this money is double taxed. When you understand the premise for alimony, (whether one agrees with it or not), according to a divorce court, that money is given to sustain a woman’s life because of a breech of promise. It is not considered earned income. So we have the wonderful IRS declaring that it is income. Your thoughts?

child support?

hey i have not received child support payments in almost two years and am now owed more than 10,000 dollars what point does the court get involved and put the men the jail or try to find them and what happens when you dont file taxes in two years becaues you owe child support do you get in trouble by the irs?

Does the IRS have a form?

My ex’s income tax refund was intercepted by the IRS for the arrears he owes me. Child support says it could take up to 10 weeks before I get it. He doesn’t owe arrears for any other children and we both live in the same county in NY. I’m just curious as to how fast it may be compared to how long they say it can take.
