Writing a paper on the effects of divorce on children and having trouble finding specific data and statistics regarding the following areas
Ability to socialize and build effective relationships
Performance in school
Relation to poor self esteem.
Statistics should be compared to children of intact families.
I am not looking to cheat… just want to know if you can point me in the right direction… possible web sites with "specific data" and credible studies conducted.
Thank you in advance

I am writing a speech on the effects of divorce on children. For my negative effects I have depression, academic problems, and long term problems with relationships. For my positive side I have that it is better for the parents to not be together so that the child doesn’t witness a lot of fighting and an unhealthy relationship, and also if the child is being abused by one of the parents. What could be a third positive effect?

Statistically, 75 percent of divorces are initiated by women. With the alimony and child support laws and division of property, oftentimes, men are left having to support two households if they can. And many are left alienated from their children. And studies have shown that the long term effects of divorce on not good for the children as well and have life altering consequences. So, do you think divorce has harmed men and children moreso than women?

I am in the middle of what I consider a necessary divorce. I passionately believe I am doing what is in the very best interest of my children’s safety, security, and overall well-being. Everyone seems to disagree with me and is very much standing in my way. It wears on one’s resolve after a while. I am wondering if there are any adult "children of divorce" out there who, now grown, feel their parent/s made an acceptable and beneficial decision. In other words, did you have a happy, secure childhood in spite of the divorce? If so, how was/were your parent/s able to achieve this? If you happen to not agree with divorce under any circumstance, or if you only have comments as to the detrimental effects of divorce on children, I would appreciate you not answering here. Trust me, I’ve heard it, and I "get it". …I’m really just searching for the other side of the coin here, if it exists at all.
"Free_Rent", I do listen to Dr. Laura and have for years. I have also read ALL of her books. Perhaps you have heard her mention the "3 A’s"??? Well, adultery, addiction and abuse all apply here. I am sorry for your pain, but I assure you, this is not a selfish decision.

I’m writing a paper for school about single mothers and the effects of divorce on children. There is a hypothesis in class that the stats are a bit exaggerated. Do you think that children of divorce, particularly men, fare as well as those of non-divorced parents when older? I’d like to hear from people whose parents actually split at a young age. Do you think this affected you in a profound way??
What if the father remained an intregal part of the child’s life – i.e. there was regular visitation. Did this make it easier? Or better somehow?

I’m looking specifically for a newspaper, magazine, or online article about the long term effects of divorce on children.
