If my spouse files for regular divorce, can we still apply for simple dissolution ?
My spouse filed for divorce in Florida but we now agree we should use the simple dissolution which is easier and cheaper, can we do that?

Ok here’s the deal. I think my mom made up a line of BS. She told her boyfriend that she can’t marry him because she is already married.
She goes on to explain that they were married for a while but the relationship fell apart and he moved out. They didn’t move to divorce right away because neither one had much money. Later he meets another woman and decides he wants to marry her but cannot find my mom to sign the divorce papers.
Now this is where I believe the lie begins. She said he got something called a one-way divorce, which in her way of explaining it means that since she didn’t sign the papers the judge granted him a divorce but she is not legally divorced because she wasn’t there for the proceedings.
Is that really true? Can that really happen? I ask because I thought a divorce was a complete dissolution of the whole marriage, not just half. Can someone explain this? Please?
By the way, this marriage occurred in the state of Virginia, if that is necessary.
My wife and I live in Ohio and get along fairly well and agree on most everything in regards to our upcoming dissolution. She found a good attorney that puts together dissolutions in our area. I was wondering why the attorney would want to meet with us separately? Is this protocol or something else? Please do not answer if you do not know the difference between a dissolution and a traditional divorce…
I have a relaive. She has lived with a man for 18 years. They filed taxes as "married"the whole time. There are a lot of assets involved. Now,the relationship has busted. The house is in "his name"although she has bank records where she has been involved with the payments for the entire time. Now,the man is telling her she must leave,it is HIS house. So,how would the dissolution of a common law marriage work?I mean the division of assets.Should she see a divorce atty? They were never legally married.Anyone familiar with the law please help.Somehow,I am the "answer man"in the family as I know a lot of things…The law isn’t one of them.I’m thinking divorce atty, but am stuck on the fact that there was no marriage.18 years of building assets together though, seems she should be entitled to half? What to do?What is the first step?Thank you in advance
I’ve been divorced since sometime in February (2008). Exact date unknown. I signed the papers but never received a resolution copy. I attempted to request this but everywhere (even the County where it occurred) require that I give the date for processing. Part of the decree stated that I was to be returned to the status of having my maiden name restored. Now, I have ID, credit cards, and all else that are under an invalid name which I can no longer legally use but I haven’t any way of changing these because of not having a copy of the dissolution. Any help on this one will be greatly appreciated. Than you.
OK we didn’t get a lawyer because we are filing a joint petition, non-contested dissolution. His aunt, who works for the prosecuting attorney, is helping us with all the paperwork. We have been separated for 13 months now. We finally got all the paperwork finalized and now need to file it. Any ideas how long it might take to be finalized? We live in MO. We have no children; it should be a very simple and easy divorce.
I know my fiance just had a legal separation agreement with his ex. So I asked him about it and he show me his legal dissolution agreement with her( his ex). I have no idea about that dissolution document and can we marry? We’re engaged.
