I am recently engaged to my fiancee who works for the US government abroad in Europe. I myself will soon be deployed to Afghanistan. We hope to get married in a year or so in the Catholic Church but doing so requires going through pre-marital counseling. How can we do this while both of us are abroad? What options are some of you aware of?

For the first time in history, the Vatican now publishes a short set of accounts for its operation in Rome and a fraction of its assets. Some of the divisions of the church also publish fragmentary accounts, particularly Health/School services required under law.

Yet across the world in places like the US, Europe, Canada, Aust the Catholic Church continues to refuse to publish a complete worldwide account of all its direct and indirect asset holdings including (but not limited to): property, gold and diamond holdings, shares etc.

If the Vatican, the Catholic Church was truly a force for good, why hide its true wealth? If the Vatican is really a force for good, why does it continue to refuse requests for a worldwide account of all its wealth (as in recent cases of Nazi/Croatian Gold disclosures in San Francisco)?
FYI, to the questioner that asked about my wealth and disclosure: by law in Australia (like most nations) I am required by law to disclose my assets each year in order to be taxed by the government. OK.

However, I understand (and correct me if I am wrong) but in countries such as Italy which pays billions of dollars to support infrastructure, the Vatican refuses to pay taxes, claiming to be an independent sovereign state.

It’s seems that people feel the need to mess with gay people and gay marriage, even though THEY are not gay. It seems to cover a wide array of people although most people are blaming the Mormons for spending million to pass Prop H8. So now, in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage even MORE there is a group who is introducing new State legislature to ban DIVORCE in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage even more. You see it’s not only the Mormons but a whole bunch of people who are against the teachings of Jesus Christ where he says NOT to Judge Yest LE Be Judged. People with nothing better to do just have to make OTHER people’s lives miserable as well.

Since the Catholic Church does NOT allow divorce, the new legislature concludes that the state should not condone it either since that goes against religion. It’s a valid argument too. A group of people figured that if people want to deny gay marriage to preserve sanctity that it’s only fair to ban divorce since that preserves sanctity as well. Won’t it be funny when ALL of these people who got divorces find that their divorces have been annulled and they are STILL married to the love of their teenage life!? Bliss indeed.

What goes around comes around … it’s all good!

[edit] mommyjustone: I understand your views and I respect your right to have them but Leviticus has been MISQUOTED for TOO LONG!
The verse says that Christians should NOT attend Pagan Worship Ceremonies where golden calves are being worshipped and men are sleeping with men and women with women.

It bans going to Pagan Ceremonies. It does NOT say that sleeping men with men is bad but uses that as a descriptive of the ceremony itself. That is an unfair translation of the Bible and it was never meant in the fashion in which you are using it. The wording is CLEAR if you do NOT take it out of context.
No offense, it’s just that I have studied this stuff a bit too much to fall for THAT one! I have had evangelicals and internet ministers debate me for WEEKS about gays in the Bible and have NEVER had one able to show me something in the Bible that I could not disprove WITH the Bible. BUT, that was a nice try. It works on the uninitiated!
I love my Creator & abhor man-made religion
beej414: an interesting premise to be sure. I would be interested in seeing what kind of response you would get by posting that as a question.

With your LAST TWO points I agree 125%, wholeheartedly, bravo, woohooo, pip pip, right on dude!

If you don’t agree with gay marriage don’t marry a gay person.

If you don’t believe in abortion, don’t get one!

I might add … "If other people and other people’s opinions, habits, beliefs, and lifestyles bother you … STAY AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE! … but certainly do NOT hate them for it or hurt them or kill them or create laws to punish or persecute them … THAT is just totally WRONG!"

Thanks Beej … good answer.

Why would having the Church’s approval of one’s divorce matter for someone who is a serious member of the Catholic Church?

Marriage between a Catholic and non Catholic?

Hello y’ll, I am a Catholic by religion and I met a lovely girl who is a protestant and fallen in love. We are planning to get married this year on December but an issue is coming on who to officiate our wedding. She want us to wed outdoor in a garden but the catholic church has ruled that out recently in a statement issued by the Cardinal. She want us to move in the Catholic church after marriage and i don’t know how this will happen. Please help me out.

What are my choices in catholic marriage counseling?

Hi… My mother in law to be wants us to go through with a catholic church wedding since she is catholic. I am not catholic but I am considering her options. What are my options in counseling and how long do they all last? I live in the state of Missouri and would like to know. Thank you.

Do you favor a divorce law in this country?

Consider this: our country is only one of two–the other Malta–which do not have a divorce law. Even Spain, Italy, and Latin American (catholic) countries already have divorce laws. The Catholic Church, even in very special cases (especially those who can afford the cost) allows a divorce.

We do have Art. 36 of the Family Code, referring to psychological incpacity as ground for annulment. Note, its annulment, not divorce… there’s a big whale of difference. So far, that’s the way out for couples, and many had to invent, and worse concede to transgressions just to establish the presence of psychological incapacity. And it costs a lot, too.

I’m 16 and trying to return to the catholic church, however someone told me that the church does not recognize divorced children as ever even being born. My mother is catholic and divorced my non-catholic father.

My ex-wife called me last night and is planning to remarry. She needs an annulment paper signed in order for her to join the Catholic church and remarry a guy from that church. We were divorced about 10 years ago. What will this annulment do to our divorce decree that we signed in 1999? I have finally gotten finished with child support payments as all the kids are now over 18, but what about the other parts of the decree? Will they still be valid?

It seems like the only thing anyone can say in opposition to gay marraige is that it would force churches to perform those ceremonies. OK, we have a great test to see if that’s actually an issue.
1. Mass legalized gay marriage.
2. Catholic church is opposed to gay mariage
3. How many gay marraiges have been forced on the Catholic Church in Mass?
That’s Massachusetts….not the act of Mass

Scroll down a little and you see this exact claim. This is about the 10th time I’ve seen it on here…
It can’t possibly happen RLP as everyone else on here knows. Churches can marry whoever they want and sure as heck can have denominational limits on who they marry.

The answer is ZERO of course.
