If I inherit stuff AFTER I marry and it is willed to my name, is it still marital property? How much do prenuptial agreements hold up if they are scrutinized with good and expensive attorneys? How can one prevent the pitfall of someone saying "I signed it under duress, b/c I wanted to get married?" I can understand the social statement of commitment to marriage, but is there no guarantee of protection of assets?

How do I subpoena my soon to be ex’s Military records into our divorce case? I’ve filled for divorce myself with no attorney and it’s important toget the records.
Yes I know thats what attorneys do but he hasnt pid any support in over a year and Im trying to raise our child by myself. I cannot afford one or get a pro bono.
He isnt going to even show up b/c he’s AWOL from the Army and has several warrants for his arrest.

I had a custody hearing last Thrusday. How long will it take until I receive the custody order from the judge?
The judge did not announce his decision at the hearing, and the attorneys are not the ones drafting the order, the judge is. I am supposed to receive the written order in the mail and I am wondering how long this usually takes.

The divorce was filed in May 2005, my ex has been stalling, refusing to sign an agreement. Originally I had an attorney, he did as well. After not getting anywhere by our attorneys communicating and by having a fruitless settlement meeting, he agreed to go to mediation. We were able to come to an agreement for alimony & child support but he would not settle the division of assets. We set a later mediation appointment which he cancelled and has since been unavailable or just refuses to go. I am out of money (he has not paid the support for two months), my monthly bills are more than double the support even if he did pay. The family house is the only remaining asset. He has already received over half of the assets through properties sold or cash. My home is now in foreclosure, my car close to repossesion. I have only been able to keep food on the table by credit cards, loans and side jobs. The house is in both of our names, he refuses to sign it over, refinance or sell. I am stuck, help.

i find it remarkable that those who oppose gay marriage have so little faith in their own marriages, to believe gays wont divorce just like heteros…….give them what they want and allow attorneys to bleed them dry too.

I want to be a Criminal Affairs Prosecutor / Divorce Lawyer. What would my salary be /monthly/ if I was both?
I don’t know how much Divorce Lawyers get but with the high divorce rates of America I bet i’d get alot of clients despite the fact that there’s alot of attorneys lol.
So what would the salary be all together monthly?
To AKA Inverse Mushroom Cloud:

Friend just called. After 15 years, she is thinking of seeking a divorce. However, she wants to know where she stands as far as her rights BEFORE she files, IF she even files. She fears that if she gives her full name, address, etc. they will mess up and send something to the house or someone there will know her husband, etc. and she is fearful of what he would do. How much info do attorneys have to have to meet w/ you and discuss a possible case, fees, etc? And will most do free consultations or do they charge? Thanks in advance. She is counting on me to help her and we have been life-long friends.

I’ve been separated for some time, have two kids and looking for a great divorce lawyer. Not looking to destroy my former spouse, just go through the proper channels and protect my self and little girls. I don’t trust internet searches and really don’t want to interview numerous attorneys. I’d like someone who comes well referred, does not discriminate towards either gender and will hopefully take monthly payments. Any help will be huge as I have no contacts in this area.

I have limited funds but need counsel. Do you know of any good discount attorneys in Valencia or Santa Clarita?
