I need help with an introductory paragraph for an argumentative essay. My topic: legalization of gay marriage.?
Some points I would like to make are:
america shouldn’t be an extension of christ’s teachings; there is supposed to be a separation between religion and state.
help control the population; more adopted kids
isn’t everyone given the right "pursuit of happiness?"

How about this?
If there is one thing I really can’t stand it’s basic human rights. Humans should be forced and controlled in how they act even when the results are trifling to other humans. Does this not sound like a capital idea? I thought not. That is why I would like to discuss the logic behind legalizing homosexual marriages.
You will probably need to rework it a little but you get the idea. Convince your reader that an Idea is really bad while pretending to agree with it. When they start to feel what you are saying is wrong/immoral point out how wrong it is to believe that way and liken it to your subject material.
First you get them hooked by something seemingly awful and then show them that it is awful if one really believed it. This approach is somewhat unique and generally works for me.
