How much does it cost to get a doctorate in physical therapy?
I’m researching careers right now, and physical therapy really appeals to me. Could anyone who is a physical therapist tell me how much it cost for college to get at least a bachelors degree for physical therapy.

That is a good question. It depends how long it takes to complete the program and what types of schools that you go to public or private.
You can not get a BS in PT anymore. The majority of PT programs require you to get a clinical doctorate in PT. There are only a handful of masters programs and they are in the process of switching over. They are mandated to switch over by the year 2020 but I feel that by 2012 they all will be.
There are 2 options for the DPT. A 3 plus 3 program or a BS plus 3 program. The list of 3 plus 3 programs are

well it depends on the school. look at the school you are planning on going to. it doesnt matter what you major in really. just look at the tuition part. you cannot get a bachelors in physical therapy (you can get pre-physical therapy though at some colleges) but you need a doctorate (or in some states a masters) to be a PT. you can get your AA in PTA (physical therapist assistant. but there is no bridge to getting your degree in PT so you would have to retake a bunch of courses. so after you get you bachelors degree in whatever (it doesnt really matter what you get your bachelors in as long as you have the pre reqs done -which will also be stated on the college you select.) and then you can go get your doctorate degree which the cost of tuition also depends on the school.
As mentioned above, you can no longer obtain a BS in physical therapy.
The cost will depend an a couple factors:
1. Do you have a college degree already? If so, you’ll only be required to take any prerequisite courses you did not get in your BS degree.
2. If you are starting from scratch, there are two pathways you can choose as Mary mentions above.
3. Although the 3/3 program sounds like it might save you money, consider that most of these programs are housed at very expensive private schools that often cost up to $30,000 a year. A state school is still often under $12,000 a year.
4. It will also depend on how long it takes you to complete your undergraduate degree. Although you pay per credit hour, you must also consider the cost of living.
At the very "cheap" end of things, a physical therapist education from scratch can cost $60-$84,000….not including living expenses.
Going to a private school, it can be very easy to spend upwards of $160,000
