How does child support work if the father is retired/ not working but has lots of money?
My child’s father is currently not working, he could start again but at least for now he is not. I am a college student so I do not make any money. He have 10’s of millions in cash and assets. I do not have money for a lawyer and am just filing with the state. So how do they figure out monthly support?
Thanks!

So, you targeted a man of means to get pregnant by hoping to get a big payoff in child support. Regardless of his assets, they can still do a presumed amount, but how do you know he could be working? Do you even watch the news? By year end, women will hold the majority of jobs and management positions in all fields. You should have selected a target man better.

If he has that kind of money, he will hire a good lawyer who will bury you in paperwork, make your head spin, etc. Try and find a good lawyer. If you are poor, you may qualify for legal services who do a good job with family law issues. Just google your state + legal services. every state has some form of it.
Support does not depend simply upon wages. Assets are considered. You need an attorney to pursue Discovery of his assets. You could do it IF you knew how, and had the money to spend on doing so. It will still cost money to do it, but at least an attorney knows how.
In fact, if he has millions, and you can’t even afford an attorney, then even more reason to find an attorney. You don’t stand a chance and it’s going to be hard work for a lawyer, but somewhere there is a lawyer who will be willing to cash in on the millions if he wins.
But even just handling your own position in a support hearing, there’s no way he can claim he’s not working and poor. He does have to answer some questions that the court will dispute if anything seems out of order. (One of those inconsistencies will be a lawyer representing him, and how does he pay for a lawyer when he has ‘no money’?)
The court has to recognize the man as the father. Then you can have him served with interrogatories concerning his financial status and resources. Most states have a required form for the court to use as a basis for setting monthly support amounts. If the man lies on the forms and you can prove it in court the court will make necessary calculions in determining the amount of support.
i would just ask him for the money directly, if a person is that wealthy you might end up missing, people have for less
