I think you've missed the mark on a few points. It would seem that Brian is no longer attracted to his wife, and this may go to many levels, starting with no longer liking her as a person, to not respecting her, loss of mutual interest, etc. If Brian has had a girlfriend for a year and a half, perhaps he's in love with this woman and not his wife. Once a man cheats on his wife, it is nearly impossible to get him to rekindle the "old flame." Brian needs to get his act together so he doesn't get another DWI. Could it be that his miserable marriage drives him to drink? If Toni isn't gainfully employed full time, I'd suggest she get a job in order to be independent from Brian.
